Classically trained, Cindy Van Acker danced with the Royal Ballet of Flanders and the Grand Théâtre de Genève before enrolling to the contemporary dance scene in Geneva.
She creates her own pieces since 1994 and has founded the Cie Greffe in 2002 after the solo Corps 0:00, with which she gained international recognition. Since then, around 20 projects have emerged, such as Diffraction (2011), Drift (2013), Anechoic (2014), Ion (2015) and Zaoum (2016). From 2008 to 2009 she created 6 Soli, source of as many films made by Orsola Valenti.
In 2005, she represented Switzerland at the Theatre Biennale in Venice. She created the choreographic parts of famous director Romeo Castellucci’s Inferno (2007), Parsifal (2011) and Moses und Aron - Schönberg (2015). Her career is also marked by her collaborations with Myriam Gourfink and Mika Vainio.
Through her choreographic creation, that combines aesthetic sobriety, minimalist movement, meticulous composition and electronic music, Cindy Van Acker examines with an almost scientific thoroughness the connections between the body and the soul, sound and rhythm, and creates works that cross over the boundaries between dance, performance and plastic art.
